Jamuna Fertilizer Company stopped production

The Jamuna Fertilizer Company (JFCL) in Sarishabari upazila of Jamalpur, the country's largest urea producer, has been shut down for four days due to mechanical faults. According to JFCL sources, a leak occurred in the boiler of the ammonia plant of the company around 2 am on Friday. Since then, the production of ammonia and urea has come to a complete halt.

Meanwhile, there are fears that there could be a fertilizer crisis in the command area of ​​the company this season if mechanical faults are not rectified quickly. Sudip Majumder, managing director (MD) of the Jamuna Fertilizer Company, said production was halted due to power plant faults. The company's own engineers are working to repair the mechanical faults.

He did not say how long it would take for the company to return to normal production, but said it was likely by the end of the month. According to the concerned sources, the company was closed on April 4 last year due to a mechanical fault. After a month of shutdown, urea production resumed on May 6, three days after it started on May 3. Since then, the company has been producing for so long, but it stopped again from midnight on Friday.

In this regard, the in-charge of the sales department of the company Waisur Rahman said, “At present the company has produced 47 thousand 444.30 tons and imported 19 thousand 498.40 metric tons. There are tons of fertilizers in stock. Of this, 69,482.40 tons have been allocated to the command area in the current February. Sold 23 thousand 953.60 metric tons.” He also said that there will be no fertilizer crisis if production starts this month.
