HT Imam is no more
Prime Minister's Political Adviser Hossain Tawfiq (HT) Imam is no more. He died at the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) in the capital at 1:15 pm on Wednesday (March 3).
Barrister Biplob Barua, special assistant to the prime minister and office secretary of the Awami League, confirmed the death of HT Imam on his verified Facebook page last night.
"I am deeply saddened to learn that HT Imam, the political adviser to the Prime Minister, has died at the Combined Military Hospital at 1:15 pm," he said. Funerals and burials will be informed later.
President Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina mourned the death of HT Imam.
Earlier on Wednesday, family members said HT Imam had been undergoing treatment in the ICU of the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) for several days. His physical condition has been quite bad since Tuesday.
According to sources, HT Imam had been suffering from kidney complications for a long time. He was taken to CMH due to a recent illness.
Hossain Tawfiq Imam has been the political advisor to the Prime Minister since 2014. He is known as HT Imam in the political arena of the country. He was 72 years old at the time of his death.
The party's office secretary Biplob Barua said HT Imam's body would be flown by helicopter to his village home in Ullapara on Thursday morning. His janaza will be held at 11 am at Ullapara Akbar Ali Government College ground.
The coffin will be brought back to Dhaka after Janaza. It will be kept at the Central Shaheed Minar from 1.30 pm to 3.30 pm to pay homage to everyone.
The body of HT Imam will be taken to Banani Cemetery after another janaza at Azad Mosque in Gulshan after Asr.
There, the Dhaka district administration will pay homage to this freedom fighter. He will be buried in Banani later.
Hossain Tawfiq Imam was born in 1939 and later became known as HT Imam.
Due to his father's job, he spent his childhood and adolescence in different districts. He passed matriculation from Dhaka Collegiate School. He passed his Intermediate from Edward College, Pabna.
He got admission to Dhaka University with BA degree from Rajshahi College and MA degree in Economics. He was then involved in the left-wing student organization.
After graduation, HT Imam joined teaching as a lecturer in economics at Rajshahi Government College. He then took part in the civil service examination in Pakistan and joined the government service. He then did a postgraduate diploma from the School of Economics in London.
