High Court's ruling on pre-paid meter complaint investigation
Many consumers are complaining that consumers have to pay extra charges and hidden charges in prepaid electricity meters. The High Court has issued a rule to conduct an impartial investigation of the complaints raised in this regard. The concerned have been asked to respond to this rule.
Tuesday (June 11) Justice Md. The High Court bench of Mustafa Zaman Islam and Justice SM Masud Hossain Dolan issued the ruling. At this time, lawyer Saifullah Mamun, AM Jamiul Haque Faisal, Abdullah Al Hadi, Kamrul Hasan Regan, Md. heard on behalf of the writ. Zakir Haider.
Respondents to the writ are Secretary Energy and Power, Chairman Power Grid Company of Bangladesh, Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission, Bangladesh Power Development Board, Bangladesh Rural Development Board, DESCO, West Zone Power Distribution Company, Northern Electricity Supply Company (NESCO) and To the authorities of DPDC.
The writ has demanded urgent review and audit of electricity billing practices, transparency, refund of excess charges, public communication and policy reforms.
On May 21 last, a legal notice was sent to the writ respondents demanding an urgent review and audit of electricity billing practices, transparency, refund of excess charges, public communication and policy reforms.
According to the notice, prepaid electricity meters have been introduced in Bangladesh. It has been announced that all electricity users will be covered by 2025.
Consumers have to pay additional charges and hidden charges despite the operation of prepaid electricity meters; Electricity bill collection system lacks transparency. Consumers are facing various difficulties in this. This has caused widespread dissatisfaction. These issues need to be reviewed and reformed.
The problems have led to widespread discontent and financial hardship. But no action has been taken yet.
