Hand grenade recovered in Kushtia

Police have recovered an abandoned hand grenade-like object at Khoksa in Kushtia. Based on the news of the locals on Wednesday afternoon, the object was recovered from the house of the late freedom fighter Abdur Rahim Biswas of Basoa village of Shimulia union of the upazila and kept in a security cordon in a field in the area.

Mts Rizia Begum, the wife of the freedom fighter said, about a month ago, when the soil was removed while cutting a shimul tree behind her house, she was surprised to find the object and brought it home. Everyone in the neighborhood saw it but no one could say anything. Police and journalists arrived at the home on Wednesday and said it’s a bomb. She also said, many freedom fighters used to come to their house when her husband was a freedom fighter. Unable to understand, he turned around with his hand.

Officer-in-charge of Khoksa Police Station Syed Ashiqur Rahman said, “a grenade-like object was found in the house of the freedom fighter. We initially rescued the object and put it in a safe place. Later the bomb disposal team will come and rescue and take away. Since he was a freedom fighter the idea is that the object was thrown here after the war.”
