Grown onions, 100 kg

In the space of a week, the price of desi onion has increased from Tk 20 to Tk 25 per kg. The buyers have expressed their anger because of the sudden increase in the price of onion before the sacrifice.

On Thursday (June 13), several markets in the capital were visited.

A week ago the price of onion was 65 to 75 taka. But in today's (Thursday) market it is being sold at 85 to 90 taka.

Traders say that onion does not come from India like before. Among them, the demand increased during Korbari Eid, but the supply did not increase much. As a result, prices have increased.

Buyers complain that the use of onion increases in cooking beef or mutton during Eid al-Adha. Traders have increased the price of onion using this opportunity of demand.

They also said that the price of all kinds of spices are increased not only for onions but also for Eid. The prices of these products are increasing by leaps and bounds as Eid approaches. God knows where this price will go on Friday and Saturday.

It should be noted that the proposed budget for the financial year 2024-25 proposes to reduce the duties and taxes of 27 essential products. However, it has not yet made any impact on the market in the capital. Most of the daily products are being sold at high prices.
