Govt warns of stern action against buses overcharging passengers
The Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) has warned of strict actions against people who are charging extra bus fares to passengers after the recent hike in fuel prices.
“If there is any irregularity found in collecting the increased fare of public transport, we will definitely take action against the culprits,” said BRTA Chairman Noor Mohammad Majumdar.
He was speaking at an event at Shimu Driving Centre Auditorium in Mirpur, Dhaka on Tuesday afternoon.
Driver Technical Company Limited organized the program on the occasion of the conclusion of “Driver Trainer Training”.
Calling on stakeholders to come forward to maintain order on the roads and control terrorism, Noor Mohammad said: “Everyone should take initiative from the place of social responsibility and get out of the culture of blame.”
Pointing out that there is no substitute for skilled drivers to keep the roads safe, he further said that continuous training should be ensured to produce better ones.
“In this case, along with the government, private institutions should also come forward,” he added.
Chairman of Drivers Technical Noor Nabi Shimu presided over the event while Osman Ali, general secretary of Bangladesh Road Transport Workers Federation, among others, were present.
