Food inflation up to 9.89% in May
A data released by Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS) on Monday said inflation rose to 9.89% in May due to the higher food prices.
The food inflation surged by 54 basis points to 10.76% from 10.22%, while non-food inflation decreased by 15 basis points to 9.19% from 9.34%, according to BBS data.
The food inflation hit a five-month high, reaching 10.22% in April this year, despite an overall decrease in the inflation rate to 9.74% from 9.81% in March.
The food inflation spiked to 10.22% in April from 9.87% in March, marking its highest level in the past five months, adversely impacting the economically disadvantaged and those with low incomes.
