Focusing on agri, ICT in proposed industrial policy stressed
Speakers at a workshop here Tuesday underlined a
business-friendly modern industrial policy focusing on agriculture, tourism and
information and communication technology (ICT).
They also insisted on increasing the use of technology and skilled manpower for higher growth and productivity.
The observations came at a participatory consultation workshop on the proposed National Industrial Policy jointly organised by the Ministry of Industries and Khulna Divisional Commissioner Office, in association with Technical Assistance Component of PRISM Programme.
The participants emphasized adopting region based industrial policy specially centering tourism in Sundarbans.
Secretary of the Ministry of Industries Zakia Sultana virtually inaugurated the workshop from the capital.
Khulna Divisional Commissioner Md Ismail Hossain spoke as the chief guest with Khulna Deputy Commissioner Md Helal Hossain in the chair.
Senior Assistant Secretary of the Ministry of Industries Md Solim Ullah presented the keynote speech.
Additional Divisional Commissioner (General) Md Abdur Rashid, President of Khulna Press Club S M Zahid Hossain, President of Khulna Journalists Union (KUJ) Munsi Mahbub Alam Sohag, Director of Khulna Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) Mohammad Mithu, President of Khulna Women Entrepreneurs Association Shamima Sultana Shilu, among others, addressed the workshop.
Government officials, bankers, representatives of Bangladesh Small and Cottage Industries Corporation (BSCIC) and media personnel attended it.
Speakers said there is no alternative to creating skilled manpower to build a developed country.
They said environment-friendly industrialization is the key to sustainable economic development and the government is focusing on the issue.
