Flood death increased to 15, affected more than 4.8 million people


15 people have died in the ongoing floods in the country so far. More than 48 lakh people have been affected.

The Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief announced this information in a circular on Friday (August 23) evening.

Among the dead were four in Comilla, one in Feni, four in Chittagong, one in Noakhali, one in Brahmanbaria, one in Lakshmipur and three in Cox's Bazar.

According to the notification, currently 77 upazilas of Feni, Comilla, Chittagong, Khagrachari, Noakhali, Moulvibazar, Habiganj, Brahmanbaria, Sylhet, Lakshipur and Cox's Bazar districts are flooded. Nine lakh 46 thousand 769 families are trapped in water. 48 lakh 69 thousand 299 people were affected.

Apart from this, a total of 3 thousand 176 shelters have been opened to provide shelter to water-bound or affected people and a total of 1 lakh 95 thousand 30 people and 18 thousand 96 cattle have been sheltered in the shelters.

The Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief also informed that a total of 639 medical teams are operational to provide medical services to the victims of 11 districts. So far, 20 thousand 150 tons of rice has been allocated from the ministries to the areas affected by the floods.
