Five Eid Jamaats to be held at Baitul Mukarram

A total of five Eid congregations (Jamaats) will be held at the National Baitul Mukarram Mosque as Eid-ul Azha, second largest religious festival of the Muslims, will be celebrated across the country on Wednesday.

The first Eid Jamaat will be held at 7am and then the second, third and fourth ones will be held at 8am, 9am and 10 am, confirmed an official release on Tuesday.

The fifth and the last Eid Jamaat will be held at 10:45am.

The Islamic Foundation in the release urged all concerned including Muslims devotees and imams to arrange Eid-Jamaat amid strict health guidelines announced by the government considering the present situation of the novel coronavirus.

Bangladesh is set to celebrate Eid-ul-Azha amid the pandemic for the second time on Wednesday as the government has relaxed Covid-19 restrictions from July 15-23 to ease travel for Eid holiday makers and allow cattle markets to operate.

It also urged people to strictly maintain health guidelines while travelling to their home districts or at cattle markets, due to surging numbers of Covid-19 infections across the country.

However, many experts believe that the situation is likely to get worse because of the fallout from the lockdown pause ahead of Eid holidays.

The country on Tuesday recorded 200 more deaths and 11,579 new cases. With the latest development, the total number of deaths reached 18,325 while the total number of infections stood at 1,128,889.
