Engit Theatre celebrates 34th anniversary
Natore-based theatre troupe Engit Theatre celebrated its 34th founding anniversary organising different programmes on Natore Muslim Institute premises recently. The theatre troupe distributed essential food items among the destitute at 11:00 am and a cultural show and discussion programme was held at 6:00 pm.
Poet Ashik Rahman, theatre activist Alok Maitra, cultural activist Khagendranath Roy, Gourpriya Panday, Sajjid Hossain Jhorna, Altaf Hossain and Ashish Neogi, among others, spoke at the discussion programme, which was presided over by president of Engit Theatre Manojit Bagchi and anchored by its general secretary Sukhmoy Biplu.
The organisers and audience observed one-minute silence in memory of the people who had died of Covid-19 till date at the event. Besides, they also prayed for the recovery of renowned fiction writer Hasan Azizil Haque.
Following the discussion, members of Engit Theatre staged Utpal Datta-penned and Sukhmoy Biplu-directed play Dwip. Sukhmoy Biplu, Gourpriya Panday, Zafrul Islam, Aditya and Rajdip performed in the play.
Child artistes of cultural organisation Bhor Holo, namely, Prity, Bishali, Aiyan, Ankita rendered songs at the event led by Rathin Kundu. Besides, Ananya Shrabasti, Aradhya, Dighi and Diya performed dance recitals at the event.
‘We are happy as we were able to celebrate our 34th founding anniversary successfully amid the Covid-19 crisis. We are looking forward to staging our productions regulalry in the coming days,’ Sukhmoy Biplu, general secretary of Engit Theatre, told New Age.
Engit Theatre began its journey on August 20, 1987 with SM Solaiman-penned street play Khyapa Paglar Pyachal. The theatre troupe also publishes a literary magazine named Engit.
Engit Theatre’s productions include Birambana, Dabi, Kakdwiper Ek Maa, Ora Achhe Bolei, Inspector Elen, Election Caricature, 71-er Pala, Basan, Satyam Shibam Sunadaram, Brittanta, Dhil, Sadanander Satkahan, Indara, Abak Jalpan.
