Elections in 19 postponed upazilas underway
The postponed elections in 19 cyclone Remal-hit upazilas across the country are underway today (June 9).
Voting started at 8am in 1,181 polling stations within these upazilas and will continue without interruption until 4pm.
Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) are being used in Pirojpur's Mathbaria, while traditional ballot papers are being used in the other areas.
A total of 330 candidates are competing in the elections. Among them, 119 are vying for chairman positions, 132 for vice chairman positions, and 79 for woman vice-chairman positions. There are 3,046,088 registered voters in these areas.
These 19 upazilas were scheduled to hold elections in the third phase of the upazila polls on May 29. However, the election commission postponed the polls due to cyclone Remal.
