DNCC demolishes illegal part of Sadeeq Agro

The Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) conducted an eviction drive in the Mohammadpur Beribandh area of the capital on Thursday (June 27) to demolish a part of the much-talked-about Sadeeq Agro Farm, which was allegedly built on the site of a canal and the adjacent road.

DNCC Chief Estate Officer Mohammad Mahay Alam and Zonal Executive Officer (Zone-5) Mutakabbir Ahmed, among other officials, were present during the drive.

Sadeeq Agro came to light before Eid-ul-Azha after reportedly selling a goat to the son of National Board of Revenue (NBR) official Matiur Rahman for Tk12 lakh as well as Brahman breed of cow, the import of which is banned in Bangladesh.

Meanwhile, the agro farm authorities removed cows and goats on Wednesday night ahead of the drive. They also removed installations built illegally on the site.

Mutakabbir Ahmed said the eviction drive was not conducted against any particular individual or institution but against those who occupied the canal site.

On Wednesday, the DNCC sent a letter to the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) seeking the deployment of law enforcers during its drive to evict illegal establishments, including Sadeeq Agro, in the Mohammadpur Beribandh area under Zone-5 of Dhaka north city.

Wishing anonymity, a DNCC official said Sadeeq Agro built the farm occupying a part of the canal.

He added that the farm authorities were given notice several times but ignored the warnings.
