Dengue turns alarming


The daily number of dengue cases continued to rise. 194 new cases of dengue were detected in 24 hours till 8:00 am on Thursday, taking the total number of cases to 2,292 since January.

The country's daily dengue cases are breaking records every day since July 24, officials of Directorate General of Health Services said.

The country reported 104 dengue cases on July 24, 105 cases on July 25, 123 cases on July 26, 143 cases on July 27 and 153 cases on July 28, showing a rising trend in the number cases of dengue, a mosquito-borne viral infection, according to the DGHS data.

Among the total 2,292 cases, 1,920 were detected in 29 days in July, said the Health Emergency Operation Center and Control Room of the Directorate General of Health Services on Wednesday.

Among the 194 new dengue cases detected on the day, only 13 were detected outside the capital city of Dhaka and the daily number of cases in the country remained above 100 for the sixth day amid the worsening Covid situation.

The DGHS said that 642 dengue patients were currently undergoing treatment in different government and private hospitals.

Of the patients, 618 were taking treatment in 41 public and private hospitals in Dhaka and the rest were in hospitals in other divisions.

A total of 1,646 people have recovered from dengue infection since January.

Eight mobile courts of the DSCC on Thursday realised Tk 1.18 lakh in fines from 15 under-construction buildings and houses for their negligence in curbing the spread of aedes mosquitos.

DNCC mobile courts on the day realised 4.42 lakh fines in 36 cases in the area.
