Dengue kills one, infects 218
One died of dengue and at least 218 people were admitted to hospitals in the country with infections in 24 hours till 8am on Thursday. Of the infected total, only 10 are from outside Dhaka.
With the latest infections, a total of 3901 patients have been diagnosed with dengue this year, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS). Of the total infected, only 144 are from outside Dhaka.
Among 3,901 infected, 1,243 were diagnosed in the last five days till this morning, which indicates a fast-rising trend of the disease.
At least 2286 people were hospitalised in different hospitals across the country in July, 272 were hospitalised in June, and 43 were infected in May.
Though most of the patients who were hospitalised have so far been released, 1055 are still undergoing treatment at hospitals in Dhaka, and 43 are being treated outside the capital, the DGHS data shows.
Meanwhile, mobile courts of two city corporations Wednesday realised Tk 11.48 lakh from owners of different under-construction buildings, houses and other establishments for creating breeding spots of the dengue borne Aedes aegypti mosquitos.
The mobile courts Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) fined Tk 6.55 lakh in 10 cases filed against owners of under-construction buildings, houses and other establishments.
The mobile courts of Dhaka South City Corporation fined 34 under-construction buildings, houses and other establishments Tk 4.93 lakh after they found Aedes mosquito larvae on the premises.
The mobile courts are also conducting awareness campaigns in different areas so that people clean their houses and yards.
