The curtain of the Bangabandhu 9th Bangladesh Games falls Saturday
at the Bangabandhu National Stadium. Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal was virtually present in
the closing ceremony as the chief guest while State Minister for Youth and
Sports Mohammad Zahid Ahsan Russell MP was physically present in the venue as
the special guest.
Chief of Army Staff and BOA president General Aziz Ahmed SPB, BSP, BGBM, PBGM, BGBMS, PSC virtually presided over the closing ceremony. Besides, BOA Secretary General Syed Shahed Reza delivered his welcome speech.
The BOA has organized the games marking the birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and the Golden Jubilee of Independence.
Nearly 5,300 sportsmen from all over the country took part in 31 disciplines of sports for 1271 medals including 378 gold at separate twenty-nine venues of seven district across the country.
The games were originally scheduled to take place last year but it was postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic. However this time Bangabandhu 9th Bangladesh Games is being held smoothly in compliance with all kinds of health protocol.
The torch relay of the Games got underway from Tungipara, Gopalganj.
Twenty sports stars, split into ten groups, carried the torch from the birthplace of Bangabandhu to the BNS. Prominent golfer Siddikur Rahman and SA Games double-gold medallist swimmer Mahfuza Akter Shila ignited the torch of the Games on the day of the inauguration ceremony.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina formally inaugurated the Games through a glittering ceremony.
However, before the official opening on April 1, the games were rolled into the field with some events like football, cricket and hockey. And in the last few days, the whole country was crazy with various sports.
There was a festive mood in every venue. There was a lot of enthusiasm among the athletes for the games because many athletes had taken preparation for this biggest domestic extravaganza.
Bangladesh Cricket Board Blue team won the first gold in the women’s cricket of Bangladesh Games.
In yesterday’s men’s cricket final Varendra North Zone and Jahangirabad Central Zone vie for the coveted gold medal deciding match to be held at the Abdur Rab Serniabat Stadium in Barishal.
Country’s biggest multi-sports event now on the verge of an end. The closing ceremony has been shortened to due to the Covid-19 surge.
The curtain of the games falls through a two-hour closing ceremony.
The BNS gate will be opened for the spectators at 5.30 pm. The closing ceremony begins with holly Quran ‘Tilawat’ which will be followed by the national anthem.
Like the opening ceremony, the closing ceremony will be a featured laser show. The mascot of the Bangabandhu Bangladesh Games, the symbol of peace, the pigeon will be seen on the field. And finally, the torch will be extinguished.
