Coast guard seizes speedboat, immature hilsas

The Bangladesh Coast Guard seized a speedboat and 49 maunds of immature hilsas at Mawa in Munshiganj on Sunday.

A team of Mawa coast guard station seized a speedboat with 1, 950 kilograms of immature hilsas at Mawa Kandipara ghat in the early morning, said a press release. Nobody was arrested in this regard as the owners of the seized hilsas could not be found. Later, the fishes were distributed among the poor and the orphans. The coast guard handed over the speedboat to the local office of the Department of Fisheries.

Fishing immature hilsas is prohibited under the laws in Bangladesh.
