Clash between laborers and law enforcement in Savar, 1 killed


Clashes erupted between laborers and law enforcers following protests at Ashulia in Savar. One person died after being shot. Besides, at least 30 workers were injured, including four shot.

The incident took place in front of Mandal Group in Jirabo area of ​​Tongi-Ashulia-EPZ road on Monday (September 30) around 11:30 am.

 

The name of the deceased worker is Kausar Hossain Khan (27). He is a factory worker of Mango Tex Limited in Jirabo area of ​​Ashulia.

The duty manager of Enam Medical College Hospital confirmed the death at around 2 pm. Yusuf Ali.

 

Initially, the names of two people who were shot were reported among the injured. They are Habib, a worker of Natural Denims and Nazmul Hasan, a worker of Natural Indigo Factory. The identity of the rest of the injured was not known. Two PMKs and two others who were shot have been admitted to Enam Medical.

The workers said that in the morning a tripartite meeting was going on with the workers of the Mandal Group, the owners, workers representatives and the law and order forces. As there was no agreement, the workers took a position outside the factory. Later workers from other factories started gathering there. Meanwhile, the law and order forces and the workers took a face-to-face position and the workers vandalized some RAB and police cars. Meanwhile, the members of the law and order forces started lathicharge. Later, when the workers became more agitated, the police opened fire to bring the situation under control. When five people were shot, they were admitted to the local PMK Hospital and Enam Medical in Savar. At that time, the doctor on duty of Enam Medical declared Kausar Hossain Khan dead.

Yusuf Ali, duty manager of Savar Enam Medical, said three people were brought to the hospital with gunshot wounds. Kausar died among them. The other two are undergoing treatment.

 

Suman, a worker of Natural Denims, said that everyone was working in the factory in the morning. There was no movement in our factory. But when the workers of Mandal Group started protesting in front of the factory, our workers went there in solidarity. A few other factory workers joined there. Law and order forces started lathicharge. At one stage five people were shot dead. Later I brought them both to the hospital. Besides, around 30 workers were injured. They are undergoing treatment in different hospitals.

Admin Manager of PMK Hospital Nazim Uddin said four workers were brought to the hospital in injured condition. Two of them were shot in the leg. They are undergoing treatment.
