Chapainawabganj goes under complete lockdown
Chapainawabganj district administration has declared a complete lockdown following the deteriorating coronavirus pandemic situation in the district.
The lockdown will come into effect from 12 am Sunday midnight and will continue till 3 May.
During this period, only the emergency services will be exempted from the all-out lockdown restrictions.
The Covid-19 positive rate in Chapainawabganj is over 50% while the overall infection rate in the country is 8%.
Chapainawabganj Civil Surgeon Zahid Nazrul Chowdhury confirmed the matter to the media and said, "By far, some 1291 people have tested Covid-19 positive in the district."
"The daily infection rate has hit as high as 55 per cent here off late," he said adding, "52 of the 95 samples on Saturday tested positive."
Regarding the presence of Indian variant among the collected samples the civil surgeon said, "We can only confirm that after receiving the virus genome sequencing report for the samples sent to IEDCRA."
On 149 May, samples of 42 Covid-19 patients, who had returned from India, were collected and sent to the Institute of Epidemiology Disease Control and Research (IEDCR).
Reportedly, the number of Covid-19 patients from Chapainawabganj is increasing every day at the Rajshahi Medical College Hospital.
Dr Saiful Ferdous, deputy director of the Rajshahi Medical College Hospital, told TBS, "The number of Covid-19 patients in our hospital is increasing every day, and most of the patients are from Chapainawabganj.
"Out of 146 Covid-19 patients admitted on Saturday, 71 are from Chapainawabganj. Five of them are in the ICU."
"More people are coming from India illegally through the Sona Masjid border, which has led to an increase in the infection rate in Chapainawabganj. The situation will be dire if the Indian variant gets to spread in the country from the district," he further added.
