Chagalkand: Revenue officer Motiur's mountain of wealth

In Dhaka, Gazipur, Savar, Narsingdi, Barisal, houses, land, flats, plots and other immovable assets were found in the name of Motiur. Meanwhile, anti-corruption commission (ACC) has filed a complaint against Matiur Rahman for acquiring huge illegal wealth. After verifying the complaint submitted in the first week of June, the commission decided to investigate.
According to ACC sources, corruption complaints were filed four times before. But each time he was given a 'clean certificate'. This time the commission has decided to investigate the complaint. The complaint is being investigated by the bank branch of the commission. Legal action will be taken against Motiur and his family members if any evidence of illegal wealth is found.
It is known that Motiur has hundreds of crores of rupees in his bank account. Several intelligence agencies are looking for his illegal wealth. Matiyur's first wife Laila Kanij is currently Raipura Upazila Chairman of Narsingdi. The couple's daughter Farzana Rahman Ispita and son Taufikur Rahman Arnab have been found to have crores of rupees deposited in various banks.
Motiur has an FDR of around Tk 40 crore earned by corrupting various banks in Dhaka. He has kept these assets in the name of his wife and relatives so that there is no corruption-related trouble. He owns a seven-storey house on a five-katha land worth about Tk 40 crore on Road No. 1, D Block, Bashundhara.
Global Suj has its export-oriented shoe factory on about 300 bighas of land in Baluka, Mymensingh. Its name is Global Surge. A joint developer company called JCX is constructing a 14-storey commercial building in Bashundhara. He owns it. Motiur owns a large amount of land in Khilgaon Mauza of Gazipur Sadar.
He owns 60 percent of land in eight khatians in Birulia Mauza of Savar police station near the capital and 14.03 percent of land in the same Mauza in the name of his wife. 60 percent of the land worth around Rs 90 crore is held in seven khatians in the name of Global Suj Company. Besides, they have a few luxury cars in their name. Apart from this he is likely to have more assets.
Meanwhile, Dr. Matiur Rahman said in an interview given on Wednesday (19), 'I will accept the punishment that will be given to me if someone can prove the corruption of one rupee during the tenure of the commissioner. Never failed in revenue collection performance. But unfortunately for me, before every promotion in service life ACC has investigated. Now the conspiracy has started again before promotion to membership.'
He also said, 'There is not a businessman in Bangladesh who can say that Matiur Rahman has corrupted him. I can say this with one hundred percent confidence.'
