Cases filed against professional journalists
The meeting of the executive committee of the journalist union Narayanganj, which is part of the Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists, was held on Wednesday (September 4) afternoon in the meeting room of the Narayanganj Press Club auditorium in Chashadha Balur Math of the city. The meeting was chaired by the president of the organization Abu Saud Masud. General secretary of the organization AKM Mahfuzur Rahman was in charge.
Vice President Nahid Azad, Joint General Secretary Anwar Hasan, Treasurer Mushtaq Ahmed (Shaon), Organizing Secretary MR Kamal, Executive Members Nazrul Islam Babul, Sharif Sumon, Niaz Mohammad Masum, Moshiur Rahman were present in the meeting.
The meeting unanimously decided to hold the annual general meeting on October 19. Also, a decision has been taken to speed up the activities of the organization by inducting new members into the organization.
After the fall of the Awami League government on August 5, the members of the executive council expressed their concern as cases were filed against several professional journalists in Narayanganj. The politicians and the administration are called upon to ensure that professional journalists are not made defendants in any case in the future and that those who have been made defendants in the past are not harassed. Besides, the meeting discussed about taking various steps to speed up the activities of the organization.
