Brahmanbaria SB ASP transferred

Senior Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Alauddin Chowdhury of the Special Branch (SB) of the Brahmanbaria district police has been transferred after a month of the mayhem caused by Hefazat-e-Islam.

On Tuesday afternoon, the police headquarters issued an order transferring him from Brahmanbaria to the Sylhet Range Reserve Force (RRF).

Earlier on Monday afternoon, the police headquarters issued an order transferring Brahmanbaria Sadar Police Station Officer-in-charge Abdur Rahim to the Rangpur Range.

Brahmanbaria Additional Superintendent of Police (Administration and Crime) Md Raich Uddin confirmed the transfer to the media, saying "It was a regular transfer. However, he (Alauddin) will have to leave Brahmanbaria by Wednesday."

Hefazat-e-Islam activists and supporters caused massive violence in Brahmanbaria from March 26 to 28 in protest of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Bangladesh. They vandalised and destroyed several government and private establishments including the office of the superintendent of police, outpost no 2 of Sadar police station, office of the civil surgeon, office of the district council, municipality office, Sadar upazila land office and district public library. A total of 55 cases have been filed in these incidents.
