Boro cultivation surpasses target in Narsingdi

Cultivation of Boro paddy in the district has surpassed its target this season due to favourable climate conditions and adequate supply of high quality seed.

Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) official sources said the department has set a target to cultivate Boro paddy on 55,300 hectares of land in the six upazilas of the district.

But farmers of the district have cultivated 19 hectares more land than the target.

DAE official sources said of the total land, the farmers cultivated hybrid varieties on 529 hectares of land, High Yielding Variety on 54429 hectares and local variety on 350 hectares of land.

The enthusiastic farmers are now busy in nurturing the paddy fields with the hopes of getting more production of rice then the target this season.

Deputy Director of DAE, Narsingdi, Mohammed Saidur Rahaman said the government has provided quality seeds, fertilizers, pesticide and agri-loans to the farmers for making the Boro cultivation programme successful.
