Book on Bangabandhu’s March 7 speech published in all UN official languages

Permanent Mission of Bangladesh to UNESCO and Bangladesh Embassy in Paris has published -- in UN's six official languages -- a book on Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman's March 7 speech.

The book titled "The Historic 7th March Speech of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman: A World Documentary Heritage" was unveiled at UNESCO headquarters on Friday.

According to a press release issued in this regard, the book contains special statements of Bangladesh President Abdul Hamid, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen and Education Minister Dipu Moni.

In his welcome speech, Bangladesh Ambassador to Paris and Permanent Representative of Bangladesh to UNESCO Kazi Imtiaz paid homage to the memory of Bangabandhu.

The March 7 speech worked as the major source of inspiration for the nine-month-long war, the envoy said.

He also thanked ambassadors and permanent representatives of all the countries who participated in the event.

Ambassadors and permanent representatives at the organisation from Australia, England, France, Ivory Coast, Senegal, Spain, Cuba, Saudi Arabia, Mauritania, Kuwait, Russia, China and Bangladesh who speak English, French, Spanish, Arabic, Russian and Chinese unveiled the book on Friday, the release adds.

The UN's educational, scientific and cultural agency, UNESCO, included the speech in the Memory of the World International Register, a list of the world's important documentary heritage, in 2017.

According to UNESCO, the speech constitutes "a faithful documentation of how the failure of post-colonial nation-states to develop inclusively, democratic society alienates their population belonging to different ethnic, cultural, linguistic or religious groups."
