BNP has no way to seek vote to people: Quader
Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader Wednesday said as a political party, BNP has no right to seek votes from people. “BNP could not create any image as an organised political party and that is why it has no right to seek people’s votes…they are trying to create fresh issues after its failure in waging movement and elections as well,” he said. Quader, also the general secretary of the ruling Awami League, made the comments after virtually joining the triennial conference of the AL unit of Baraigram upazila in Natore from his official residence here.
Calling all the ruling party leaders and activists to be careful about evil forces, the ruling party leader said “BNP is trying to create anarchy in league with evil forces being envious of development activities of the country. “So, we all have to remain alert against these evil forces ”, he added.
Mentioning that BNP’s politics is based on media, the minister said BNP’s convicted fugitive leader Tarique Rahman is continuously instigating evil forces for creating anarchy in the country as he stays in London.
On BNP’s announcement of its unwillingness to participate in elections under the incumbent government, Quader said “The next general elections would not be held under the present government …the elections will be held under the Election Commission (EC).”
“Elections will be held in proper time, but who will participate in the polls or not is totally immaterial because elections will not be delayed for anyone,” he told the conference. Election is not a ‘fixing game’ as to BNP victory means Election Commission’s neutrality or its failure means EC is biased, he said.
Talking about BNP’s new strategy of avoiding party symbol in Union Parishad election, AL general secretary said they are hatching conspiracy for creating mayhem in the elections, so everyone should remain alert.
Quader said that those party leaders who are being involved in anti-party activities will be served show-cause notices by the respective district committee. “The dedicated leaders must be evaluated and would be kept in the committee, said Quader, “But the outsiders and criminals will not be allowed in the party,” he added.
Even those who did not get party nominations in the union parishad elections and are out to patronize outsiders to create instability would be brought under strict organizational punishment, he cautioned.
Chaired by acting Baraigram Upazila Awami League President Abdul Kuddus, the conference also was addressed, among others, by its organizing secretary SM Kamal Hossen, State Minister for ICT Zunaid Ahmed Palak, Natore District Awami League President Professor M Abdul Quddus MP and its general secretary Shafiqul Islam Shimul MP.
