Biden tripped on the stairs of Air Force One

U.S. President Joe Biden stumbled on the stairs of Air Force One. The incident took place at Andrew Base Airport in the state of Virginia, just 10 miles from Washington DC, on Friday, local time. The White House says Biden is well. He was not injured.

Biden was on his way to Atlanta. There Vice President Kamala Harris was waiting for him. The accident happened on the way to attend a meeting with Asian American leaders in Atlanta. Biden was escorted by his assistant to the stairs of the plane.

As seen in the video captured by reporters from a distance, the president's foot slipped in the middle of the stairs of Air Force One. He was holding the railing of the stairs with his hands. He has been seen stumbling several times. Shortly afterwards, Biden regained his composure. Arriving at the door of the plane, he turned around and entered with a formal farewell greeting.

Biden then attended the Atlanta meeting as usual. He felt physically healthy.

The White House says Biden is 100 percent healthy. This is due to the wrong step (Miss Step) to climb the stairs. Kate Beddingfield, the White House communications director, said there was a gust of wind at the time. That is the reason for such an incident.

U.S. presidents travel home and abroad on Air Force One planes for security. There have been incidents of people falling while climbing the high stairs to enter Air Force One. Mike Pence, the then vice president, fell while boarding an Air Force-2 plane last year. In 2015, then-President Barack Obama was falling. Later he took care of himself. In 1975, then-US President Gerald Ford fell from the stairs of Air Force One. Last year, then-President Donald Trump also fell down the stairs on his way back to speak at the West Point Military Academy.
