BGMEA Board abolished, Govt appoints administrator
The government has dissolved the current board of directors of the garment industry owners' association BGMEA. Instead, an administrator has been appointed in this apex body of exporters. The administrator has been given the responsibility of Export Development Bureau (EPB) Vice Chairman Md. Anwar Hossain.
Trade organization-2 branch of the Ministry of Commerce informed the matter in an office order today (October 20). It has been said that the administrator will hand over the responsibility to the elected board after conducting fair and impartial elections within the next 120 days.
After the country's political change on August 5, the government dissolved the board of several trade organizations including FBCCI, the apex organization of businessmen, and appointed administrators. Awami League leader SM Mannan Kochi was the president of BGMEA before the political change. After the change of power, he was not seen in public again. After that, Khandkar Rafiqul Islam, the senior vice president of the organization, took over as the president of the organization.
