BCB persist with Domingo for now

Bangladesh cricket team will for now have to continue with Russell Domingo as the head coach.  Bangladesh Cricket Board cricket operations committee chairman Jalal Younus while speaking to the media informed that the board does not have immediate plans to make a change in the head coach position.

Discussion in the Bangladesh cricket fraternity has been wide of possibly massive changes in the national team coaching panel. Fielding coach Ryan Cook was first to leave after the board decided not to extend the contract and then it was revealed Wednesday that fast bowling coach Ottis Gibson has opted not to extend his contract with the Bangladesh team. “Even the president [Nazmul Hasan] said it few days back. We do not have an option for the head coach position and also we are under a contract [with Domingo]. So we will carry on with him,” said Jalal Thursday. The Bangladesh team's coaching panel travelled back to their respective countries following the series in New Zealand and will join the team in Dhaka ahead of the home series against Afghanistan in February. Jamie Siddons is scheduled to join the national team in early February as the batting consultant. The BCB brought back former Australia batter Siddons to Bangladesh cricket following 10 years after he served as the senior men's team's head coach from 2007 to 2011. Jalal pressed that given the busy schedule, it is not possible to change the head coach that quickly but that the board does intend to bring the necessary changes.

“We have a busy [international] schedule. There is Bangladesh Premier League Twenty20 after the New Zealand series followed by Afghanistan series. The team will then travel to South Africa. Domingo will stay with the team. But we are thinking of the coaching panel. Gibson has left, Siddons will join; we need to have a profuse change in the coaching staff,” said Jalal. Domingo has cut an isolated figure in the Bangladesh camp in recent few series. There had been question marks over how much the team actually improved under him. BCB was not making any meals about replacing him but are cautious. "Just because players did not perform under him, does not mean that he is a bad coach.  He coached South African national team. He failed to bring success from the World Cup but that's his issue. But we can't recruit a lower quality coach than Domingo. Maybe we need a better coach or at the very least a coach of his quality," Jalal said. Above all there was the intent to change things on a grander scale. "So far, Domingo is set to continue his role. [Otis] Gibson left and Jamie Siddons is coming. We have to make solid foundations for the changes," Jalal concluded.
