Bangladeshi Sumona named player of the year at Sydney-based Bankstown Club
Bangladeshi all-rounder Jannatul Ferdous Sumona outshone several Australian national women's team cricketers as she was named the player of the year of Bankstown Sports Women's Cricket Club for her stellar performances in the 2020/21 season of the New South Wales Women's Premier Cricket First Grade.
Bankstown finished third in the 2020/21 season, thanks largely to spinner-allrounder Sumona's exploits with both bat and ball, as she took 20 wickets in 12 matches, and scored 196 runs.
Sumona in the process ended as the highest wicket taker of Bankstown, and third highest run-scorer, and also registered the club's best bowling figure this season when she bagged five wickets conceding 20 runs in 8.3 overs against Gordon.
Sumona's international career began in 2016 when she was called up to the Bangladesh national women's team for the tour of Ireland, but she had to wait two more years before making her competitive debut in the tour of South Africa.
Having played three matches on that South Africa tour, the 23-year old Sumona has been waiting ever since to don the Bangladesh jersey again, something that she said she now wants to change after her scintillating performances Down Under.
