Bangladeshi graduate Mamun’s road to Meta job
Abdullah Al Mamun, a computer science and engineering graduate from Dhaka University of Engineering and Technology (DUET), joined Meta as a software engineer earlier this month.
In a brief Facebook post, he discussed his journey to being hired by one of the most renowned technology companies in the world. Mamun termed this journey as the toughest one in his life as he had to go through some adverse situation from the very beginning.
Dreamt of being an engineer, he failed to fulfill his desire to get a chance to admit into Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET), country’s renowned engineering institute.
He was forced to get admitted to a polytechnic institute to keep his “dream of being an engineer” alive. Subsequently, he got chance in the computer science and engineering department of Dhaka University of Engineering and Technology (DUET).
In the meantime, he had planned to go abroad for higher studies with a full scholarship. Fortunately, he had managed a scholarship from Germany but couldn’t join it due to financial crisis.
After completing his graduation from DUET, he got a scholarship at Saudi Arabia’s King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals to complete his masters’ program in Computer Engineering.
He later joined Florida International University for his PhD in Computer Science.
During this period, he had started to apply for engineering posts of tech giants like Facebook and Google. He faced interviews at different tech giants, including Roku, FedEx, LinkedIn, Tesla, Uber, and so on. However, he got rejected from all these companies after facing some interviews.
Finally, tech giant Meta offered him to join as E4 Software Engineer at their head office at Menlo Park, California, USA following his performance in seven-round entry test.
Mamun thanked his father, mother and wife for their non-stop support and inspiration during his adverse time.
He suggested his fellows not to be afraid of dream big. He urged all to keep trying and not to compare yourself to others.
According to Mamun, one has to have the power to digest failure to achieve great things. No one will be able to stop you when your turn will come.
