Bangladesh U-19 set to tour India for Afghan series

Bangladesh Under-19 Cricket Team is getting ready to mark their much-needed comeback to international cricket with the upcoming away series against its Afghanistan counterparts this month.

Organized by Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB), the series is scheduled to be played at Dehradun in Uttarakhand, India where the uprising cricket nation set their base in the consent of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to run their overall cricketing activities from the national team to the age-level cricket.

The youth Tigers have been out of the cricket since their remarkable title-win in the ICC Under-19 World Cup in 2020 after which the champions could not get any opportunities to play amidst the Corona pandemic.

Bangladesh Cricket Board in consultation with its Afghanistan counterparts arranged the series for the newly-built squad of the under-19 team ahead of the next extravaganza for the youth. Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Nizamuddin Chowdhury Shujan confirmed the news to the media.

“Bangladesh team has a tour ahead. In the next few days, Bangladesh will play against the Afghanistan U-19 team.  The series will be hosted in India by the Afghanistan Cricket Board,” Nizamuddin Chowdhury said.

Though the schedule of the youth Tigers’ tour is yet to be finalized, the series will feature one-day matches along with four-day matches.

The BCB, however, wants to prepare the world champions within the limitations of the scope.

“Our youth team is the current champion team.  In that case there were some additional plans.  We have not been able to implement these due to the Covid protocol.  We have been able to take advantage of the opportunities that were available,” BCB CEO said.
