Bangladesh & Sarkar Tanvir Ahmed on the world stage

An emerging dynamic youth leader is introducing Bangladesh to the international arena in the practice of patriotism, inspiration, and social youth leadership, he has recently won the Princess Diana Award, which is given in recognition of the potential work of emerging young people around the world. From an early age, he was involved in different and creative work to present himself differently. His receipt from the expectation seems to remind us of the achievements and glory of Bangladesh with pride.

The year was 2016. A young man was shocked by a militant attack on a Holey Artisan restaurant. In that incident, Fayaz Ayaz Hossain's honesty and determination shook him. The militants released Fayaz Ayaz Hossain but he was martyred in a bid to free his friends. Ever since the horrific incident of the Holy Artizan, he has felt that if the youth could be enriched with social responsibility and active civic consciousness, they would not turn to militancy. Sarkar Tanvir Ahmed Tanim, the founder and president of the Youth Parliament, has been playing the role of the youth parliament since then. Symbolically, it has been established to make the youth interested in democracy and the constitution through the practice of the National parliament.

Tanvir spent his childhood in the residential area of the largest Joypurhat sugar mill in Bangladesh. Enthusiastic and eager to learn something new since childhood, he has always been curious. From being interested in knowing and learning to keeping himself one step ahead in the context of the modern world, he has found himself in a different way on the journey to the epoch by joining the International Scouts. He has not looked back since then. Today he is the protagonist of the story of the path of emerging youth.

Under his leadership, the Youth Parliament is now working with the youth as an international youth platform to contribute to UN SDG-16. In recognition of his work at various times, he received the Diana Award-2021, the Central Khelaghor Asor Award in 2009 where the President of Bangladesh H.E Md. Abdul Hamid presented the award, At the 3rd International Youth Summit, he spoke as one of the 24 prominent people including former presidents and prime ministers of different countries, former presidents, and president of the 73rd UN General. This year he receive an official pass from the United Nations for attending the OHCHR Genocide Session in Geneva in 2021, the SUNFO Global Award in Sri Lanka in 2021, National Best Youth Tree planter winner in 2019, and In 2019 selected for the Global Peace Medal by the Ministry of Youth and Sports of the Maldivian government and brought honor to the country.

Under his notable leadership in recent times The 3rd Model Youth SAARC Summit of the Youth Parliament held in India was attended by eminent personalities including former President of Mauritius Dr. Aminath Ferdous Gurib Fakim, former Foreign Minister of Maldives Duniya Mamun, former Ambassador of India Mr. Anil Trigunayet which is a great achievement of the Youth Parliament.

Mr. Ahmed’s work will continue to enrich the youth of the country through the practice of the Youth Parliament. He believes that one day youth will be able to become an MP of the National Parliament by learning the values of the constitution and practice of the parliamentary system from the Youth Parliament. To promote the UN Sustainable Development Goal-16, the activism of the Youth Parliament will keep juveniles away from crime, drug use, conflict, and militancy.

Sarker Tanvir Ahmed's said that “Youth Parliaments are practiced in the main parliaments of different countries of the world. One day, the Youth Parliament will be held in the session room of the Bangladesh Parliament House.”

The Youth Parliament is a manifestation of Bangladesh's potential in enhancing the image of the country through youth leadership and commitment to social responsibility. Sarker Tanvir Ahmed's global contribution to the youth in the dream journey will inspire the youth of Bangladesh.
