Bangladesh cricket team on Wednesday arrived in Christchurch in New Zealand after a long journey for their month-long next white-ball mission against their home side.
The media department of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) confirmed the news after successfully landing at Christchurch International Airport.
A Covid-19 test will be done at Christchurch, where the contingent of the Team Tigers will be quarantined for the 14 days at the Lincoln University High-Performance Center subject to tested negative.
The visiting side has to be quarantined in the hotel in the initial seven days of the two-week quarantine. During this period of time, no one will get an opportunity to mix with each other, even if they will not get a chance to dine together.
The local authority will send victuals to the respective rooms of the players, officials, and coaching staff from where they have to take for eating. Even they have to wash their rooms, clothes, and toilets themselves.
But the cricketers will get a chance to have practiced and fitness training on a limited scale from the eighth day of the tour. The disciple of Russell Domingo will hold a five-day preparation camp in the aftermath of the 14-day quarantine.
Thereafter, Bangladesh will embark on their month-long campaign with ODI matches, starting on March 20 in Dunedin. The second and third ODI will be played in Christchurch and Wellington on March 23 and 26 respectively.
After the end of the ODI series, the three-T20 series will be played in Hamilton, Napier, and Auckland respectively on March 28, 30, and April 1 correspondingly.
However, Bangladesh ODI skipper Tamim Iqbal is hopeful to achieve unachievable results in the tough condition of New Zealand.
Bangladesh last time visited the Kiwis in 2019, where they played a three-match ODI series and got hammered by the top-flight host side.
After that, the red and green were supposed to play three-match Test series too but a horror show hit at a Christchurch mosque by a terrorist named Brenton Tarrant, near to where the team was due to play the final Test match of their tour.
All team members survived that attack by a small margin. However, New Zealand has already claimed victory in the opening two matches of the Test series.
Despite playing several series, Bangladesh still has no win against the Kiwis. This time the ODI captain wants to change that statistic. Tamim admits the condition is tough but he is optimistic.
“We all know that New Zealand conditions are difficult for us. But nothing is impossible. We will try to achieve something that we have never achieved in New Zealand. We are optimistic.” said Tamim Iqbal before leaving the country.
Moreover, Bangladesh premium all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan, who has recently been on the receiving end of heavy criticism for his decision to participate in the upcoming season of lucrative Indian Premier League T20 and skip Test matches for Bangladesh against Sri Lanka in April to join the cash-rich tournament, also withdrew from this series to stay with his child-bearing wife in the USA.
