Bangladesh Film Directors Association elects Sohanur as president, Shaheen GS


The election of the Bangladesh Film Directors Association concluded on Friday, as Sohanur Rahman Sohan and Shaheen Sumon were elected respectively as the President and the General Secretary of the guild for the session 2021-2022.

The election also made way for the formation of a new committee.

Sohan-Shaheen panel won the election, as the total number of 361 people voted for the three nominated panels.

Sohanur got 129 votes compared to his opponent Kazi Hayat, who got 80 votes. On the other hand, Shaheen Sumon won the post of general secretary with 165 votes, while his nearest rival SA Haque Olik was able to secure 64 votes.

Meanwhile, Director Chatku Ahmed was elected as vice-president while Kabirul Islam Rana was selected as deputy secretary-general.

Among the nine other editorial posts, Mohammed Salahuddin won the position of finance secretary, Rakibul Alam Rakib was chosen as organizing secretary, Noman Robin as international and information technology secretary, Shaheen Kabir Tutul as cultural and sports secretary and Anwar Siraj as publicity, publication and office secretary.

Moreover, winning contestants of the ten executive posts are: Palli Malek, Zakir Hossain Raju, Abdur Rahim Babu, Nur Mohammad Moni, MasumaTani, Mostafizur Rahman Babu, Selim Azam, Habibul Islam Habib, Saidur Rahman Saeed and Shahadat Hossain Liton.

The election was held at Bangladesh Film Development Corporation (BFDC) from 9 am to 5 pm on 2 March. Vote counting began in the evening and the results were announced after midnight.

This year three contestants each fought for the posts of the president and the general secretary, while others contested for the executive and editorial posts.

The contestants fought hard to secure their position in the new committee amidst much enthusiasm.
