Bangladesh Blue emerges 'undefeated champion'


Bangladesh Blue team won a gold medal as they thrashed Bangladesh Green by a comprehensive 8 wickets in the women's cricket event of the Bangabandhu 9th Bangladesh Games at the picturesque Sylhet International Cricket Stadium in Sylhet on Friday. 

The Blue led Salma Khatun emerged as an undefeated champion in the riveting final of the domestic extravaganza with the great bowling performance from Jahanara Alam and Mumtahena.

Chasing the paltry target of 73 runs, the Bangladesh Blue team lost the early wicket of Murshida Khatun, After lunch, Farzana Haque’s batting display helped the team reach the target with ease after losing the wickets of Shamima Sultana and Murshida Khatun.

Murshida scored 9 off 15 balls, while Shamima made 31 off 55 balls with the help of five boundaries before being bowled by Rumana Ahmed. They made a 30-run partnership. The Blue team had to play only 18.2 overs to reach the target. Shamima was named player of the match.

On the other hand, Farzana Haque was unbeaten on 28 runs. Apart from Rumana, Khadija Tul Kubra got the wicket of opener Murshida Khatun.

The Green team had to stop for 72 runs before being all out. As Jahanara Alam and Mumta Hena from the Bangladesh Blue team took 3 wickets each. While experienced Salma Khatun got two wickets and Rabeya Khan got 1.

The highest 18 runs for the team came from the bat of Ritu Moni. Rumana Ahmed, who scored 60 runs in the previous match, came up with the second-highest 14 runs. Sanjida Islam could not make the innings big as Salma returned the right-handed batsman who scored 12 off 31 balls. Apart from opener Sanjida’s 12 runs, no other batsman could touch two figures.
