Bangladesh bets big on veterans for T20 World Cup glory

Shakib Al Hasan and Mahmudullah Riyad are expected to play their last T20 World Cup in Bangladesh colors. Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto said the blend of experience and youth is the specialty of his team in this T20 World Cup.

However, Bangladesh's games before the World Cup have not been promising. They lost two back-to-back games against the USA ahead of the World Cup.

The third warm-up match against the USA was canceled due to bad weather conditions. Now, they have only a warm-up match against India before the World Cup.

Trust on Shakib and Mahmudullah

Shanto was appointed captain of Bangladesh across all three formats in February this year. At the time of his appointment, his only experience leading the side in a World Cup game was during the ODI World Cup last year.

Shanto is banking on the vast experience of Shakib and Mahmudullah for the World Cup.

In addition to the legendary Shakib and Mahmudullah, Bangladesh's squad for World Cup features experienced players such as Soumya Sarkar, Liton Das, Mustafizur Rahman, Towhid Hridoy, and Taskin Ahmed.

The team also includes promising young talents like opener Tanzid Tamim, keeper-batter Jaker Ali Anik, and spinners Rishad Hossain and Tanvir Islam.

Bangladesh falls in group D with South Africa, West Indies, Netherlands and Nepal in T20 World Cup.
