Maulana Bhasani's death anniversary today
Today is the 48th death anniversary of Maulana Abdul Hamid Khan Bhasani, a veteran political leader.
President Mohammed Shahabuddin has paid rich tributes to the late politician, popularly known as "Majlum Jananeta (the leader of the downtrodden)."
“On the 48th death anniversary of the Majlum Jananeta Maulana Abdul Hamid Khan Bhasani, I pay my deepest respect to his memory," the President said in a message.
Shahabuddin said Maulana Abdul Hamid Khan Bhasani was a shining star of Indian subcontinent politics.
"His political career began in 1919 when he joined the anti-British non-cooperation and Khilafat movement. He did politics to establish the rights of the hardworking people, farmers-labourers and common people," he added.
Bhasani played a unique role in uniting the people against the injustice and oppression of the colonial rulers, said Shahabuddin, adding that he was thrown in jail for protesting police firing on students in the language movement of 1952.
Bhasani also had an unforgettable contribution to the struggle for freedom in the country, he said, adding that Bhasani in his long political career, worked selflessly for the country and the people.
Maulana Bhasani always prioritized national interest, the president said.
"For his deep love for the country, people used to call him Majlum Jana Neta," he added.
The president hoped that the ideals of Maulana Bhasani would inspire the new generation with the spirit of patriotism and liberation war.
He sought eternal peace of the departed soul of Maulana Abdul Hamid Khan Bhasani.
To mark the day, Maulana Bhasani University of Science and Technology and different local organisations have organised various programmes at Santosh where he was buried. They also placed wreaths at his grave. Several political parties will also pay tribute to the late politician.
