30 people including Jubo League leader lands in jail
Sixteen people, including Bogura's Jubo League leader and municipal councilor Aminul Islam, have surrendered to the court on Thursday nine days after the High Court ordered their arrest in a fake bail case.
After the accused appearing before the court at around 11 am Thursday and sought bail, the court denied their bail plea and ordered them to be sent to jail.
Bogura Senior Judicial Magistrate Begum Asma Mahmud passed the order, said Abdul Mannaf, counsel for the accused.
Earlier, after 14 accused in the case surrendered in the same court on Wednesday afternoon, they too were denied bail and sent to jail.
The accused sent to jail on Thursday are – Bogura Municipal Councilor Jubo League leaders Aminul Islam, Abdul Alim, Anwar Mandal, Mohammad Badal, Selim, Kibria, Rashedul, Saddam, Mahmud, Ratan, Selim Reza, Ruhul Amin, Zahidur Rahman, Nur Alam Mandal, Bipul and Sumon Pramanik.
Besides, the 14 accused sent to jail on Wednesday are Liton Pramanik, Mohammad Manik, Mohammad Zakir, Mohammad Tanvir, Mohammad Abdul Gani, Russell Mandal, Asaduzzaman Mona, Khokon, Shipon, Al Amin, Dipta, Miraj, Helal, and Rabbi from Godarpara area of Bogura Sadar.
Defendant's lawyer Abdul Mannaf said 16 accused in the case surrendered in court on Wednesday and 14 on Thursday and applied for bail. But the judge rejected their bail plea and ordered them to be sent to jail.
According to court sources, the two sides clashed on February 9 over control of the motor owners' group in Bogura. In this incident, on February 10, three cases were filed against more than five hundred people. Among them, Moshiul Alam Dipon, younger brother of Manjurul Alam Mohan, joint general secretary of the district Awami League, filed a case naming 33 people including Aminur Islam, vice-president of the Upazila Jubo League and municipal councilor.
In that case, fake bail documents of 30 out of 33 accused were made. A High Court bench of Justice Abu Zafar Siddiqui and Justice KM Hafizul Alam ordered the arrest of the accused soon after the fake bail case was caught on February 24. The Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Bogura Sadar Police Station was directed to arrest them within seven days. The court also directed the Bogura Chief Judicial Magistrate to investigate the matter.
According to court sources, a bench of Justice Abu Zafar Siddiqui and Justice KM Hafizul Alam demanded bail on February 14 and 30 accused, including Bogura Jubo League leader Aminur Islam. However, no such order was issued by this court on that day. Even the names of the lawyers mentioned there are baseless.
