Three police were injured by crude bomb blast on Sunday night in Gazipur's Kaliakair while conducting drive to stop gathering of Hefazat activists protesting arrest of Hefazat-e-Islam's Joint Secretary General Mamunul Haque.

"Three upazila members of Hefazat including Amir were arrested and later sent to Gazipur court on Monday noon praying for 4-day remand," said Monowar Hossain, officer-in-charge of Kaliakair police station, confirming the matter.

The arrestees are Kaliakair upazila Hefazat Amir and principal of Chandra Ulum Mahmud Nagar Madrasa Mawlana Emdadullah alias Emdadul Haque, assistant teacher Ashraful Islam and his brother Mohammad Ali.

Following a tip-off that upazila Hefazat members will carry out vandalism protesting Mamunul Haque's arrest, when the police conducted the drive, around 35-40 miscreants attacked them.

The police fired some shots in defense.

The injured police were given primary treatment at the Kaliakair upazila hospital.
