2023-24 fiscal year supplementary budget passed
The Jatiya Sangsad has passed the supplementary budget of Tk 37 thousand 817 crore 40 lakh 57 thousand for the current financial year 2023-24.
On Monday (June 10), Finance Minister Abul Hasan Mahmud Ali introduced the 'Specification (Supplementary) Bill-2024' in Parliament. The bill was later passed by voice vote.
This supplemental bill is introduced to authorize appropriations and appropriations in excess of the appropriations made from the Consolidated Fund for carrying out operations for the fiscal year ending June 30.
In the main budget of the current financial year, 7 lakh 61 thousand 785 crores were allocated in favor of 62 ministries and departments. In the revised budget, the allocation of 22 ministries and departments has increased by Tk 37 thousand 817 crore. Budgets of 40 ministries and departments are unchanged or reduced. The revised budget has been reduced by Tk 47 thousand 367 crore to Tk 7 lakh 14 thousand 418 crore.
The Ministry of Planning has received a maximum of Tk 12 thousand 649 crore 33 lakh 68 thousand in the supplementary budget.
Four MPs proposed 66 cuts against 20 demands in the supplementary budget. Among these, two concessions were discussed on the proposal for retrenchment. They are Department of Economic Relations and Department of Information and Communication Technology.
Earlier, members of the government and opposition parties discussed the supplementary budget.
